The brand promise, ‘We’ve got you covered’, is not only about caring for day-to-day wounds, but also about caring for the environment. That’s why the brand relaunch of Hansaplast in 2021 included meaningful sustainability development goals based on CARE BEYOND SKIN, the sustainability agenda of its parent company, Beiersdorf.
Beiersdorf goals for a more sustainable production
For greater environmental compatibility, since 2021 the new lighter folding boxes save 106 tons of paper per year – equivalent to the weight of 18 adult African elephants – and are designed for maximum recyclability. Products with paper or cardboard packaging use 100% FSC®-certified paper.
In the following ways, Hansaplast supports the circular economy: One of our sustainability goals is the 50% reduction of fossil-based virgin plastic in our packaging by 2025. Also by 2025, all our product packaging will be refillable, reusable or recyclable.
In line with these detailed sustainability development goals of the Beiersdorf Plastic Pledge 2025, the new Hansaplast packaging avoids plastic as much as possible. For example, removing plastic from sealed pouches in 2021 saves 3.2 km2 (83 tons) of plastic annually, equivalent to a continuous strip of plasters winding around the world 13.5 times.

CARE BEYOND SKIN – our commitment to the sustainable development goals
Ambitious sustainability goals can only be achieved together – and with a good plan. That is why Beiersdorf has launched the company-wide sustainability agenda CARE BEYOND SKIN. It is based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the ten principles of the UN Global Compact and aims to reduce the impact of our actions on the environment.
With CARE BEYOND SKIN, Beiersdorf not only wants to advance sustainability throughout the company but also make it verifiable and tangible with clear targets. To make our contribution to combating global warming, we measure our CO₂e footprint along the entire value chain. In the second step, we reduce emissions, for example by developing eco-friendly, sustainable products.
Ambitious climate targets
Beiersdorf has set ambitious company-wide climate targets in view of the latest climate science findings: By 2025, we want to significantly reduce all our emissions along the entire value chain – by 30% compared with 2018 levels.
To achieve this sustainability goal, the direct CO₂e emissions of our production sites shall be reduced, as well as indirect emissions generated in connection with the ingredients and packaging materials for our plasters. This way, we at Beiersdorf and as the Hansaplast brand want to make our contribution to combating global warming. This goal is in line with the recommendations of independent scientists to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
